Our projects | Merit Based Scholarships
We currently fund two students in their college studies based upon merit and need.
Jie Luo-
Jie Lo is the 22-year-old daughter of farmers. Her father recently passed away, leaving his wife and 5 children to support themselves. We met Jie Luo in 2000, on our first trip to Tze Trongwa Village. She was just starting high school at that time and had a bright future.
When we returned in 2004, she was in her final year of high school. She was unsure of whether or not she could even finish her last year and take her junior-college entrance exams because of the tuition costs. Jie Luo was the only person to have made it to higher levels of education in the entire Serkog Valley of 10,000 people. We felt it was imperative to make it possible for her to continue pursuing her education.
After interviewing Jie Luo and her mother concerning their situation and future plans, we offered $8,00 yuan ($1,000 USD) for Jie Luo to complete her final year of high school. Upon completion of her exams, we would continue funding her college education.
In the summer of 2005, upon our return trip, we determined the continued need for funding for Jie Luo and offered to pay for Jie Luo’s college tuition costs, costing $12,000 yuan ($1,500 USD).
We look forward to Jie Luo’s future graduation and her bright future.

In 2005, we identified another student who was forced to drop out of college because of cost. We offered to sponsor his room and board costs through the Tashi Nyima Foundation as well.
This year we will evaluate the status of these two students and look to identify other possible scholarship recipients.
